The Real Zombie Apocalypse

As a boy, I remember being scared half out of my wits when I watched the George A. Romero classic,” Night of the Living Dead.” To recap, some strange phenomenon occurred and the dead rose from their graves and began killing and eating the living. As a result, the term “zombie” has become a household word; and numerous zombie motion pictures have been spawned as a result of that original Romero classic. In fact, AMC Television’s zombie thriller, “The Walking Dead” continues to smash records and is the most watched cable television show of all time. No doubt, zombies are popular. However, is the idea of a zombie apocalypse merely theater, or can something like it happen for real. Yes, and no would probably be the correct answer…read on and allow me to explain.

An article was just released by NBC News with the headline, “More Americans Than Ever Use Prescription Drugs.” The final tally reads like this: almost 60% of adults use prescription drugs, and let’s keep in mind that we are not even considering children under 18. Couple this with the fact that during a 10-year stretch between 1998 and 2008 there was a 400% increase in the use of antidepressants, and what you have is tens of millions of Americans who are less than 30 days away from possibly experiencing a psychotic episode as their medication runs out in a crisis situation.

Psychotropic medication is extremely powerful and often addictive. If the financial system breaks down, millions of Americans will literally become “walking zombies” as they will experience the painful, and often unpredictable, outcome of abruptly halting Psychotropic medication. For these poor souls, they may as well be zombies because they will have one goal in mind: get more meds. So, either get off the meds, or if that’s not an option, stock-up on them because you never know when the music will stop playing.
