After nearly two years of Israel’s brutal assault on Gaza in which more than 62,000 Palestinians have been killed, mostly women and children, it turns out that 65% of Americans now believe the U.S. should take action to help starving Palestinians. That’s right: two-thirds of this country recognize that what’s happening in Gaza isn’t just war; it’s deliberate starvation, a crime against humanity, and a moral stain on the world.
But on the flipside, this implies that 35% of Americans still don’t think we should help. What is wrong with these people? How can anyone, in good conscience, watch children waste away from malnutrition, pregnant women miscarry from starvation, and elderly Palestinians beg for scraps, and think, “Nah, the U.S. shouldn’t lift a finger?”
This isn’t politics. This is basic human decency. If you see a child starving, you feed them. If you see a government blockading food, water, and medicine as a weapon of war, you stand against it. Period.
The poll doesn’t just reveal American compassion. It exposes Israel’s rapidly crumbling support. A staggering 59% of Americans now believe Israel’s military response in Gaza has been excessive, up from 53% in February. Let that sink in. More than half of this country, including a growing number of Republicans, see through the propaganda. They understand that killing 50 times more Palestinians than the October 7th attacks, bombing hospitals, razing universities, and blockading food isn’t self-defense; it’s collective punishment, it’s genocide, and it’s making the U.S. complicit.
And it’s not just Americans. France, Canada, the UK, and Australia have all announced plans to recognize a Palestinian state at the UN next month. Why? Because the world is sick of the double standards. Israel gets billions in U.S. military aid, a blank check for war crimes, and diplomatic cover at the UN while Palestinians are denied statehood, starved into submission, and branded as terrorists for resisting occupation.
Amnesty International didn’t mince words in their latest report: Israel is deliberately starving Gaza. They interviewed 19 Palestinians in displacement camps, and the stories are horrifying. Mothers breastfeeding malnourished babies with no milk left. Children crying from hunger while parents go without food. Pregnant women miscarrying because their bodies are too weak. Elderly Palestinians begging for scraps, saying they’d rather die than be a burden on their families.
One nurse, S, described how her seven-month-old daughter weighs as much as a four-month-old because there’s no baby formula. Another woman, Hadeel, four months pregnant, said: “I fear miscarriage, but I also think about my baby… I panic just thinking about the potential impact of my own hunger on the baby’s health, its weight, whether it will have [birth defects].”
This isn’t war. This is torture. And 65% of Americans are saying: Enough. The same U.S. government that sends $4 billion a year to Israel is now facing mounting pressure from its own people to stop the madness. The poll shows 58% of Americans believe all UN members should recognize Palestine as a state.
The question now is: Will the U.S. stand with the 65% who want to stop the starvation? Or will it keep arming the very government that’s blocking food, bombing bakeries, and letting children die?
To the 35% who oppose helping starving Palestinians, what would it take? If 62,000 dead isn’t enough, if children dying of malnutrition isn’t enough, if hospitals being bombed isn’t enough… what is?
This isn’t about Israel’s right to exist. This isn’t about Hamas. This is about human beings suffering on an industrial scale, while the U.S. pays for the bombs and looks the other way.
History will not remember kindly those who stood by while a genocide unfolded. The American people are finally waking up. The only question left is: Will our leaders listen? Or will they keep funding the starvation until there’s nothing left of Gaza but graves?
